R1200RS?

So, after owning an R1150R and now an R1100S (with all the best farkles), and having just returned from Normandy, I'm now looking at the R1200RS. I want a bike that's fun on the twisties but gets me there in relative comfort. I also want a relatively sporty position, I find myself enjoying the twisties more that way.

Does anyone have the experience to persuade/dissuade me? I get this is the ABR forum, so perhaps the wrong crowd, but adventure comes in all shapes and sizes!

Look at one of the big KTM adventure bikes. Be sure to put a massive grin on your face!

I'd suggest a 2003/2004 model BMW 1150 GS Adventure, great bikes...!

If you are, as suggested - lanky, then you should stick with adventure bikes (KTM preferably). The R1200RS and R9T etc are designed for short arses

If you were happy with the R and S then I suspect the RS will be the perfect compromise. The great thing about the RS is that they’re not as popular as the GS so second hand prices are much lower.

I bought a 2018 R1200RS four weeks ago to replace a 2014 R1200GS LC I’d owned from new.

It’s lighter, better handling on smooth roads and much more manageable in traffic than the GS. The gearbox and quickshifter are brilliant too, but I believe the E4 2018 GS’s have the same improvements. It reminds me of the old R1200S and is much nicer than the R1100S.

It’s nowhere near as comfortable though and the suspension is too stiff for bumpy back roads.

Mine has a damaged paint finish on the engine sadly (someone’s used a caustic cleaner on it too long), so it’s gong back to the dealers on Saturday as they’ve given me a full refund and I’m getting an R1250GS instead.

Did you ride one yet Lanky?
I test rode one a while back and loved it, the missus not at all! I’m 6’4” and found the riding position great, it reminded me of my old Jota. Ended up buying another GS as a compromise but I’d love to have a RS or the Cafe racer as a “me” bike.
The emoticon bike even looks like a RS 🏍
