A weekend test ride sounds perfect - let us know how you get on.

Yeah I will, I can't wait :P I've sat on a Tiger 800 at the NEC Motorbike Show, but never got round to booking a test ride. Just going to wait for it to get a bit warmer

I put 28,000 miles on that bike in 5 years and then bought the new Tiger 800 XCx 3 years ago which I have put 24,000 miles on including a 2 week 5,000 mile trip up to Nordkapp. Needless to say, I love the Tiger as I think its the best bike I've ever owned (and I've owned a lot).

I'm just about to sell my XCx :( as I've bought a Honda CRF250 Rally for a trip and cannot afford two bikes.
Ditto......
On my third tiger, the 955 and now my second 800xc.... brilliant all rounder and easy on the back and wrists...
200 miles between stops when touring is pretty effortless. Longest single trip was from ypres in france to lancashire via the tunnel in a day...in the pouring rain... only stopped for petrol and ass, back and wrists were fine

Get the tiger....
It will be alright in the end.... if it's not alright.. it's not the end !

Interesting choice to make.

I currently have a 765R and an 800XRT, both 2017 models; they are worlds apart, but both excellent bikes.

The Tigers screen, including the new model, can cause wind buffeting around the head. It doesn't affect everyone but mine can be a PIA at times and only gets better at highly illegal speeds. Have a look at https://www.tiger800.co.uk/ plenty of pages of discussion and something to look out for on your test.

Tank range is fantastic, handling and build quality good, though it is a bit heavy to push around when loaded up.

My advice would be to have both, though this may not be possible, as the itch to go a bit mad can't really be scratched with the Tiger.

After riding for about an hour, I find the Street Triple makes my arse and back ache. I would like to start going further afield and explore the country, so am thinking Tiger 800 XR. All the write ups about it are excellent, 5* every time. I'm not a great lover of the look of the Tiger but if it's comfort I'm going for

I've got a feeling I know what you lot are going to say
Get the Tiger........and a tent

I'm so crap at this stuff, lol. Well, it has taken me 4 months to sell the Street Triple, but hey it was an emotional time
No Tiger as of yet, but I think it's on the cards.
Thank for your help guys. most appreciated.

one of the ABR guys that i meet at the ABR Ireland rally this weekend was riding a 800xc he said he normally rides a triumph sport bike and he said he loved the xc.I used to own one a few years ago and i really liked it,was a superb all rounder.get a low comfort seat makes a big difference if your a bit on the short side and i found it was good for about 450 to 500 mile days.hope this helps.oh look at the GS 800 which in my opinion is a better all round bike.

Since you're in with the Triumph crowd why don't you try one of the scramblers. They're not as cumbersome as a full fat XC bike, perhaps a bit easier on the rider, a bit more practical then the Street Tripple and you're used to no fairing. They're also a hoot to ride.

I'm having a great time on a Ducati Desert Sled at the moment but it's only on loan
