Re: Go Big and Ride Small
I had a CRF230 for a while--bigger IMS tank etc--should never have sold it (had my carbon goodies on it as well). That was Vanned down to Venice, boat to northern Greece then up into Albania , Montenegro, Croatia etc and all the way back through Trieste etc to Venice---lots of offroad and camping all the way. Small bikes can do big trips--no more than 250 cc required.

Re: Go Big and Ride Small
Haven’t taken my C90 out for a little bit so today I took it for a spin around the lanes.
I quickly remembered that riding a sub-100kg bike is fantastic fun, whizzing round the corners, slaloming through traffic - loved it.

Just read the opening message on this topic, I have recently purchased an XR125L and I’m contemplating a long trip. I live in the south east of the uk and plan to take it up to the lakes and maybe on to the ns500. Hoping to be on the road for 3 weeks ( a short trip compared to many!). Should I carry any spares?

Re: Go Big and Ride Small
That sounds like a really good trip!
I had mine for a fair few years, I did take a spare inner tube with me when I went down through France but in Britain I’d probably just take breakdown insurance.
I did used to take chain lube with me though as it’s quite an exposed chain so after a couple of days solid riding it was good just to keep it moist. The seat can be a little firm for long distance adventures so consider looking at a cheap seat pad or a bit of an old sheepskin rug.
Those front panels make good mounting points for a couple of army respirator pouches for some easy to hand stuff.
And a throttle cruiser is really helpful when on long stretches of open road.
Hope that all makes sense

Locisne Universal Motorcycle Throttle Aid Motorbike Lock Assist Cruise Control Clamp Handle with Silicone Ring
These are really good for the small bikes. It means you can take your hands off for a bit which helps as a 125 can be a bit vibey at higher speeds as it’s working hard.

Never tried a throttle lock. Are they safe?

Re: Go Big and Ride Small
Absolutely. I’ve used them on most of my bikes for the past 7 years.
They just clamp on the throttle handgrip, you get to the desired speed and you push the throttle lock with your thumb so it rests on the front brake lever. If you want to roll off the speed you just decelerate as usual by twisting the throttle in the normal direction.
I’ve never had one accidentally activate and I’ve never been in a position where I’ve been scared using it.
For the small bike it’s perfect for just giving your right hand a bit of a break. You can’t use it for too long as hills will adjust your speed a fair bit on a small bike so you will need to adjust your throttle often anyway.
Perfect for a flat bit of road

As long as the bike is sound I wouldn't worry about taking spares, maybe a spare tube, but if you can't change it I wouldn't even bother with that. Your chain is going to stretch, so make sure you have the tools to tighten & loob to slink it up & enjoylukesey74 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 12:50 pm Just read the opening message on this topic, I have recently purchased an XR125L and I’m contemplating a long trip.
