Next bike: Super Tenere?

Post by thebiggestjolly »

I test rode a 2010 super ten today. 15k miles, in good nick, happy with the price (6500ish), needs a different screen for me, but other than that pretty happy. I'm 6'5, and it seemed pretty comfy. Going to test another one, a 2013 model. More miles at 23k, same price.

Any differences between the two models? Anything I should be aware of/keeping an eye out for? Other than the usual.

Any essential upgrades/farkles? Any strong feelings for or against?

Cheers all

I've got a 2012 and all I can say is the longer you own it the more you appreciate it. Does everything well but nothing exceptional about it except it's reliability. Doesn't like to be left with ignition turned on but not running as they flood and can then be a pig to start. The later models have better power delivery. Not sure about the year but you can tell by the clocks.

Gen 2 mine is 2014, heated grips intergrated into dash display, cruise control and no restriction in first 3 gears, watch out for water getting into spark plug chambers, can corrode plugs and bugger stick coils, plugs don't need changing every service but I would highly recommend removing stick coils and checking every service, don't ask how I know ;)
Very underrated bike, love mine :D

2012 gen 1.

Love the bike. I have an MRA Vario touring screen, works a treat.

One problem I have had in three years, a sidelight bulb blew. Not happy about that 🤣

Great bikes, had one for a couple of years but always felt they were overweight and underpowered, was like an absolute battleship trying to get it to turn round the hairpins in the Alps, however dependant on your riding style, they are ace.

Sidelight and headlight bulb, shameful really they should issue a recall.

This is obviously a design flaw, mine blew a headlight bulb too! Every now and then I think about trading mine, usually when I have not used it for a bit, then I keep it. Built like a tank with the associated weight at standstill I am afraid but they are surprisingly nimble once under way. I have pics to prove :D Lots of farkles out there but a high screen and winglets will be all you need to make things pleasant.

Thanks everyone, don't mind big and heavy, it'll match me! Know a guy who's got one too, also loves it. Seems to be a well loved bike by owners. I'll keep an eye on the spark plugs, and start looking for extras!

Cheers again
