I know it's form over function but I'm sat in the dealership and the sled is by far the coolest bike in here.

Re: Ducati desert sled
Agree--why bother with all this hipster retro shit destroying nice old BMs when you can buy something like this--I was out with the BM crew from Balderstons yesterday and there were a couple of the new R9T racers in white with BMW colours--what another cool bike. On the over the top theme have you seen the new Husqvarnaburgervan street bikes with funny swedish names and chopped off tails--the most recent being the 701 version--the front 2/3 rds is fine--the rear made me feel physically sick--totally unbalanced!--also sat on the new KTM twin Duke--nice piece of kit and over 100 bhp with all the weight in the right place--the adventure version is due next year I think--but its tall in the seat for me--I'll stick with my 1050 Tiger for road work--its fast enough and the new Maxxis ST tyres are a vast improvement over the Contimax fitted before.

Re: Ducati desert sled
I took the 'Sled out for a test ride last weekend - it was an itch I just had to scratch. I really am surprised how much fun I had while riding this cracking bike.
For some context, I ride a KTM 1190 Adv R and my modified CRF500L - both of which are great at what they do. The KTM is a tarmac-mile eating bike that works well off road and the CRF is an awesome offroad travel bike I built for trips on the TAT and TET.
I wasn't really sure what the Desert Sled is meant to be for, its not really a dual sport bike and its not really a dressed up road bike.
What it is a ton of fun! I can't remember the last bike that made my jaw ache from smiling so much. It is such a simple bike, easy to ride, brilliantly fuelled engine, just a great package (except the seat, that sucked).
I still have no idea what the point of the bike is but I know this - it looks great, its brilliant fun to ride and, if I thought for a second I could slip one into the garage without my wife noticing, I'd buy one tomorrow.

Re: Ducati desert sled
I sat on one at a Ducati dealer's this week.
Like Scutty I'd struggle to justify one.
May be I'd describe it as modern take on 1970/80's big trail bike?
If I had a villa in Spain I'd have one in my garage to wheelie along the front on and to blast down gravel trails.
