Re: Which bike?
Also that new 2018 DR650 SE in absolutely bang on the mark. Looks a brilliant all rounder. Light, comfy for a fat bloke) and capable on and off road. Trouble is; is it do able bringing a new bike back from Canada with all the import crap etc.
Has anyone done a new bike import from a dealer overseas and is this possible with Euro 4 etc etc ?

Re: Which bike?
It's all do-able.
But you will have to pay shipping and import duty, then put it through the single vehicle test
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-approval/mot ... e-approval.
You may need a new speedo and headlamp...but you can just replace them with std Suzuki UK parts.
One of these http://powersports.honda.com/2018/xr650l/street.aspx might also be worth considering...

Re: Which bike?
loads of info re importing DR's to UK is to be found on various sites eg Horizons unlimited etc. I'm sure Boboneleg would have done it if it was economically viable but it won't be cheap or easy if what I've read is to go by. Some guy in swindon? was doing it a few years back but stopped because of various hassles and the exchange rate. I wouldn't mind one if you want to bring a few over !

Re: Which bike?
As mentioned you can do a lot on an old DL650 .. cheap,.excellent comfort/reliability/ fuel economy/mile munching ability and can tackle rough stuff too albeit nothing extreme. I have actually ridden some of devons green lanes on mine. I added decent crash bars ,bash plate , madstad screen and lots of other stuff . It's an amazingly versatile machine. Might consider selling mine if anyone wants a awesome workhorse, 17000 miles iirc a few scrapes but fully farkled and always maintained to a high standard . just not using because of health troubles.
Oh ..just seen your earlier comment re salisbury plain bike so maybe too big ...certainly doable though!

Re: Which bike?
Ok after Some comms with dealers overseas and customs transport etc it works out an additional 1800 min to bring a new dr650 back..
So back to plan a, which is the better bike interms of reliability. Off road ability,on road useable and mpg etc.
XT660R ( were there any model changes up to the last one)?
F650 Dakar up to 05.
Any feedback good or bad?

Re: Which bike?
For your budget and inseam the XTR is spot on as you will have money to farkle it. I bought a low mile cosmetically challenged one, modified it, raced it in a rally, trail rode, toured no problems. Querty then bought it, improved it further and took it to Morocco twice I believe, then someone else on here bought it and has been bloody everywhere on it. https://www.xt660.com/home/ is a very good site. Here it is rescuing a well known BMW 014 by herman munster, on Flickr

Re: Which bike?
Your right. i test rode one today at Bransons. 04 plate with 1500 miles. After some prodding around and a bit of give away docs that seem to have been left in the file, turns out it was a yamaha off road day bike.. wasnt going to buy it but rode it. Really impressed. Will wheelie easily. And very agile , managed to a decent speed and sits at 70 easily.
