They hold a 'twin shock' event every year a few miles from and it's great to see and hear the monster Maico's and big jap bikes make mincemeat of pretty much any obstacle, if they don't get over it they go through it! It would be great to see a modern bike going head to head just to see how much difference there would be.Richard Simpson Mark II wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2018 8:08 pm
On a fast-flowing 'natural' track with a varied surface, I suspect a well-prepared 490 could at least keep up with any modern MX or enduro bike for a couple of laps.
I was into my proddie racing as a youngster, but a mate of mine rode a KX500 to a decent standard. I remember him saying he didn't fancy proddie racing as too dangerous, I replied you have to be kidding, at least if you come off on tarmac the other riders try to avoid you not use you as traction!
Although I had several trail and enduro bikes when I was younger, and enjoyed using them off road, truth was I was never much good, I recall taking my mates KX round Matchams practice circuit for a few laps and it seemed like a monster, huge, instant power, more noise and vibration than a road drill and sky high seat - proper bikes!
