Just converted my Giant Stance E to tubeless , I waited until I punctured first though !

Just bought two tubeless valves for £6 and put a cupful of "left over" Gloop in as sealant - all good so far ;-)

I'm converted to the E bike thing and have found new routes that I didn't know about despite living here for 20 years , genuinely great fun .

Not tried those yet, but I can recommend Swalbe Marathons for long trips and gravel trails and their Nobby Nicks for more slippery stuff. Maxxis is also make some good trail tyres for the ebikes, so I've heard, just not tried them yet.

I bought my first e-mountainbike a few weeks ago with the hope of getting my missus out on it, but she found it scary to ride, so she’ll still only ride on the back of our tandem  I’m loving it though as I live in the Pennines with steep climbs all ways out of my village. Eco mode is good enough most of the time with Trail mode only being used on really steep climbs, but then I’m a regular non e-bike cyclist. I’m not sure why anyone would need Turbo mode.

I use it because I'm old and knackered bloke at 55 (arthritis in me back and knees from Rugby as a young 'un) and it really helps on the hills we have here in south Devon.
:D :D

oap's only use turbo .. i would guess.
I took the mtb (non-assist) out today .. keereyest .. nearly kilt me.
Very slow progress with plenty of walking up hills .. 4 hours that take 2 hours on the Emtb.
Returned late, in the dark and wet.

its the Emtb from now on ..

I’ve only ridden an unassisted tandem since I bought my e-bike and it was still relatively easy, so the missus must have been pedalling for once

I checked the computer today and the average speed is 14.2mph so far, which isn’t bad as there’s around 1000’ of climbing per 10 miles around here. It’s a similar average to my expensive carbon racing bike, but a lot easier to achieve. At 50 years old with bad sciatica in my left hip it’s certainly making my mountain biking more fun 8-)

There are some sharp climbs on/offroad around the trials I go where a few seconds of extra oomph helps. I found the Bosch turbo mode nice and controlled but the Shimano turbo is just too much; it kicks in at a right pace. So from nothing to quite a lot as soon as you start pedaling, which on rocky uphills usually has me fighting to keep the front wheel down or off sideways.

Also it's hard on the derailleur when so much force is going through the chain. It's easy to underestimate how much tension the chain is under when you are only pedaling lightly but the motor is pulling hard. As a rule I don't get out of the saddle to pedal for that reason.

With the Shimano I keep the power lower and use a lower gear and only use the Turbo on smooth roads when I've run out of puff or I've had enough for the day :D
