Rumours of a new tiger 800

Post by Tripster1050 »

Reading rumours/speculation of a new tiger 800. Possibly going up to 900. Anyone else heard or know of this. I am going to my local dealer thu or fri and might ask if they know of anything. TFT display etc amongst other upgrades

I was at the launch of the new Triumph Visitor Centre yesterday and there was talk of 'spy' shots of a new 1200 Explorer and Tiger 800 doing the rounds. I'd not be surprised if there were new models in 2018.

I would say the 800 due a complete overhaul but the big tex is in its first full year since updating so surprised if that change, but then again its widely regarded as porky and needs to loose some weight against the competition
How was the new visitors centre, is it worth a visit ?

Yes, the current 800 is 3 year old this winter, so it's in line for an update for next year. I expect the 1200 to be more of a refresh rather than a complete makeover.

They've done a good job with the visitor centre, it's worth nipping over. Plus it's free entry. Optional factory tours are £15.

A search online seems to favour an increase to 900cc. Bring it inline withe 950 multistrada. I would be seriously interested so holding off PX a little longer to see if anything announced early next year.

I don't quite see where the 900 comes in to things. The middleweight 800 market is where it's at right now, it's not all about power, so not sure why the need for bigger capacity middleweight bike fits. :?

It would make sense if they used their new 765 engine?

If you mean along stroke version of the 765 engine then possibly, as this would take it past the 800cc it has at the moment and calm down the power for a more sedate delivery.

The 765 is a great engine (I have a Street Triple R) but way too buzzy for a Tiger.

I believe the range will probably be getting the new TFT dash similar to the Street Triple, which is also pretty good. Doing this could allow for Native Sat -Nav.
