I can highly recommend Dave of muddysump.

He has looked after my triumphs for the last 10
Years or so, first a street triple and now a tiger xc.

Initially at triumph north east where he was head
Mechanic, and more recently in his new mobile
Venture, muddysump.

He now has premises at Sunderland or will come
To you wherever and do whatever.

If you google muddysump he has very good and
Informative website.

I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Oops, just read last post!

It doesn't have to be a Triumph mechanic to do it,any bike shop could. There's nothing different about a 955 engine.I know my local bike shop's labour rates are about half the nearest Triumph dealers.

Local bike shops will do all the service bar the shims as I was told that Triumph charge them the same price for the Shims as they would any punter hence their price would be higher, and of course they would have to carry all the special tools.

So I can get it service Bar the shims, the fluids and filters I can do myself :o

They're bullshitting you Spud.I do my own valve clearance checks and I'm no expert. For a trained mechanic it would be as quick to just remove the camshafts then no special tools would be needed. In fact if it's a 2002 or later engine the camshafts have to come out.Even if they charged £5 a shim more if they are charging £40 more per hour it would still be cheaper to go with a local bike shop.It depends on the year of your bike but the later 955 engines like mine use the same shims as a Honda CRF.I get them off ebay for about £3 each.

As I have the same bike as you this seems way too much, I was planning on doing my own shims but I expected it to be around £200 from a local dealer, what is the special tool needed. Can you borrow one

The tool is for holding the valve down while you remove the shim. You can get copies for £30 on EBay or about £37 from World of Triumph. It only works on pre 2002 engines as they have the shim over the bucket.Later engines have the shim under the bucket so the camshafts have to be removed. My local bike shop reckoned on about £300 for a full service with clearance checks and throttle body balancing.
