Looking at your picture Jim, the memories are flooding back........combos bring out flocks of middle-aged men in woolly hats, right hand trust into pocket, weight shifted slightly back onto right leg.....staring, just staring, hypnotise unable to speak or move, lost in the memory of some half forgotten childhood encounter, often involving a BSA combo and an uncle who wasn't to be entirely trusted, a scoutmaster or may be the PE teacher.jim Richardson wrote:My Wife decided that we should buy an outfit, so we did, the idea was that she would drive/ride it, but I have become the driver, on the upside I have met some very weird ( in a good way ) folk in the sidecar world.
Sidecars.....Quirky fun or a valid option?

I've seen some really smart looking things on the continent, built around bikes like K100's with leading link forks and car wheels and low slung sidecars. I've also seen them really shifting up and down alpine passes and can't help but think mmm, one day.
I'd like to think if I had one I'd ride it mainly abroad but then I suppose you get into the right or left sidecar thing.
Just for the record I've never even ridden an outfit but always fancied it.

Nor had I until I went to Watsonian a few months ago. They're currently fitting a Ural chair to my Africa Twin. Great fun, can't wait to pick it up. The plan is to ship it to S. America for a bit of a tour up to the States...passage now booked on a big RoRo cargo boat for October.lmac wrote: Just for the record I've never even ridden an outfit but always fancied it.

I have ridden outfits since my oldest son was born. I couldn't face the prospect of being one of those riders I read about in classic magazines who said 'I used to ride until the kids came along and now they have left home I can have a bike again'. My children have travelled all over England, Wales, France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal in the sidecar. Yes there is an art to setting them up and riding them. They are expensive to run compared to a modern car but I don't enjoy driving or being in cars.
The Federation of sidecar clubs is excellent. Their camping weekends are really good value and much more child friendly than most bike rallies.
Cheers Jak
