My CCM 450s with factory extras, power commander and quill exhaust has cost me close to 11K.

I like the fact that it's assembled in a small factory in Bolton, by real people who care about their customers.

I had some issues with my bike which was down to a shoddy PDI.

All the issues where sorted at the first service.
That is quite a contradiction there, it should be spot on at pdi.... if the factory cared about their customers...............don't you agree?

£11k................that's a helluva price, sure enough

Husky 701, with Nomad fairing would be cheaper, perhaps and residuals would certainly be better... for sure

Who knows? The Husky is a great bike but it doesn't necessarily suit the customers who buy the GP450. One reason is the fuel range, another may be the seat height, another the weather protection.

Until a major manufacturer is prepared to stick out their neck and develop a bike with the same scope of fit, weight, ability to modify etc. it's a moot point. Only a small manufacturer here in the UK was able to do it.

Edit.....wouldn't it be good if Triumph bought them out and put some real investment into the brand?
The Triumph range has noticeable gaps at the lower cc end.
These two things are contradictory. Hand built in Bolton by a major manufacturer. Triumph (or any other big manufacturer) are primarily driven by profit. They may put the investment in but maximising profit will soon have the production shifted to the Middle East.

I remember the first time I phoned the factory with a minor problem, I was put through to Chris the designer. To me that personal touch is worth every penny of the premium price.

No real market for it, how many GP450's have CCM sold?

Big manufacturers aren't interested in small builds of a specialised bike

Bikes like the CCM 450 are fairly niche

Yes, a niche market maybe, but there IS a market and it found it's price level. As you said, major manufacturers won't be interested in small volume production so there is little point is comparing the two.

With no more GP450s available new, the forthcoming GP600 will have to capture that market and possibly an extension of it too because there was always the attitude (misguided IMHO) by many that it was 'only a 450'.

The challenges for CCM are making it work both technically and profitably whilst having to comply with draconian regulations. At least the GP450 was free from the Euro4 monster :)

I agree with you Tom about Triumph involvement. I thought as much when I posted the Edit, that's why I finished with a question mark.
Johnnyboxer.....I agree with you shoddy PDI from CCM doesn't sound like they care about their customers.
But......At work we manufacture products and sometimes things go wrong, I often think you see the true worth of a company in their actions after something goes wrong.
My major issue with my CCM was the failure of the low fuel warning light to come on, which left me stranded.
I phoned Green Flag and was subsequently recovered. But whilst I was waiting for Green Flag I phoned CCM just so they could share my pain. Ben Clewes straightaway offered to jump in his car with a gallon of petrol and bring it 50 miles to me.

I'd sooner stick with a recognised brand like the big 4 Jap or Husky/KTM/Beta as they have the resources to fund R&D/homologation/EC conformity etc with plenty of bits from companies like RR/Nomad and Mike54's outfit

Having just got back from a local bike club meeting I guess one of the things that irritates me about the bike is that I cannot honestly be more positive about it. When you turn up at a bike meet on a new, rare or unusual bike other bikers inevitably ask you about it. I could easily be a salesman for Guzzi when I talk about my Californias, I recognise their weaknesses but the positives far outweigh them and the three that I have owned have exceeded my expectations. Unfortunately I cannot honestly say the same for the CCM, and I really wish I could because I think it is a brilliant design and it comes so close. Someone commented tonight 'You could go anywhere on a bike like that' my honest response had to be 'I would like to think so but my experience tells me otherwise'. We then went onto discuss the inadequacies of modern seats and the stupidity of designing an 'adventure bike' that requires a partial strip down for routine cleaning plus all the problems that I have had with my bike. I really hope their next offering addresses the issues that I and other owners have experienced with the 450.
Cheers Jak
