Which bike for RTW?

I will make it a short list:
1. BMW F800GS Adventure
2. KTM 990 Adventure
3. BMW R1200GS
4 Triumph Tiger 800 XC
Which would your choice be and what reasons? Anything to take into consideration when making the choice?

All of which are too complicated . A simple 650 is a good option.

All fine if you're sticking to the roads. But all apart from the KTM basically unsuited to proper progress off-road. Once fully loaded with kit and fuel all of them are very difficult to pick up at all after a fall, let alone multiple falls between Kinshasa and Lubumbashi or wherever.
It all depends what kind of RTW you're considering. Across North America and Europe/Russia, absolutely no problem. Across central Africa, I wouldn't want any of them (DR650 is the biggest I'd go).
That doesn't mean that any of those bikes is incapable of RTW - I imagine all of them have managed it several times - but it's about the experience itself. You want the bike to be the MEANS to get you round so that you can enjoy the sights and the people you meet, not a horribly heavy cumbersome obstacle to overcome at every turn.

What would your route be? - all tarmac? easy trails? Russian swamps?
Camping, hotels or combination?
What is your overall budget? - Back up vehicle or cheap as possible?
Solo or 2-up
Travelling alone or with one or more other riders?
What is your time scale?
How much of a mechanic are you?

Whatever cheap, crappy, lightweight Chinese bike the locals are using; cheap as chips, easily fixable in the local back street kerb-side tin shed and no sleep lost if you just give it away to the locals at the end.
No RTW traveller has ever come back saying that they wished they had used a heavier bike.

After riding the new AT and owning one as well as a Tiger XC, I would take the tiger off and stick the AT on the list as it fells a lot lighter, but it isnt. Plus it has lots of adjustment on the shoxs and it is Japanese Honda......

6'1 . Reasonably, can pick up a 1200GS easily . Reasonably fit, walk and cycle.
Tarmac and some easy trails/unsealed roads.
Combination of hotels/camping.
Travelling in a group.
Timescale 3-4 months UK -> SE Asia
I service my own bikes. and do maintenance.

Edit: No back up vehicle(?) but in a group.

The bike that is in your garage now is the best bike to use.
Why, because you have it already. Doing a RTW trip isn't dependant on
which bike you have, but on you actually gatting out there and going.
There will be times you wish you had this and that, but overcoming unforseen
problems is part of the deal.
People have ridden RTW on everything from a Honda C-90 to Suziki GSXR-1000

If you're going to blast along from point to point then any of those you listed. If you want to observe the scenery and smell the flowers then a DR650, KLR650 or similar.

Ive got the 950 adventure and my heart says that this is the bike to take on a RTW but my head says it is too heavy too thirsty
a much smaller cc and lighter bike would be more than sufficient for a solo RTW
if you're in a group and you have others to help you when stuck etc then get whatever you want.
If you have absolutely no time constraints then the best bike would undoubtably be the Honda C90 very light easy to fix/lift and you will get spares all over the world with out much problem
