My point is , and was ? .how can Honda justify a price increase of £1000 .s in one year . I paid £10250 ,a year ago and from the start of April the price is well over 11k , I was shown the new price by my local Honda dealer . I do realise the pound has dropped in value over 23% or slightly more . Ps once again keep politics out . (thumbs) (thumbs) (thumbs) (thumbs)

honda doesn't have to justify anything, as long the price is lower then 1200 GS then it's good enough. (thumbs)

Price of new motorcycles simply reflects the demand for the new motorcycle. My feeling is that Honda came in quite cheap with these because they were up against 'runout' KTM Adventures. Most of those have been sold now, so demand is being tested by increasing the price.

If 'the market' thinks the new AT price is too salty, then the bikes stick in the showrooms.

Once the dealer's 'stocking plan' credit runs out and he has to pay for the thing, then 'deals' will be available.

If too many dealers have to do too many deals, then they will be reluctant to stock the model, and the manufacturer/importer will start offering 'deals' themselves...ie interest-free finance or £500 cashback if you buy in December.

Meanwhile those who have already purchased one of these machines can bask in the enhanced residual value.

And if you can't afford a new one, most Honda dealers can probably get you a low-miles used one for £9000-£10,000...you see, it's working already!

a very valid point ,in my opinion ,Honda should have produced the Africa twin.1000 years ago they had the cudios with old model, BMW a far smaller company ,dominated that slice of the market for years . Silly Mr Honda :woohoo: . Ps and iv owned bm gs,s for over 30years .Al

BMW Still do - the GS outsells everything else.... in the Adv Bike sector

problem is nobody want's now 2016 left overs because clients know about small improvements for 2017 and they want new, that's what dealer told me. It's bad honda moved QA testing to customers but it's good they make improvements, unlike bmw.

BMW Group reported its May 2016 and year-to-date sales figures for the U.S., and the news is grim for the first five months of the year.

In May 2016, 1,221 BMW motorcycles were sold in the USA, a 40% drop from the 2,034 sold in May 2015. This bucks trends seen in worldwide sales in March (up 19.6% over March 2015) and April (up 1.4%).

But, considering that folk were paying about £10000 - £10500 when these were launched, and 20 per cent of that was VAT (which isn't paid by the customer on used bikes) then the early AT's are actually holding their value very well.

Presumably if the sticky switch issue has been solved and the spokes changed it's a perfectly serviceable bike ?
