i have the yamaha xt1200z super tenere, had it since new 2011, i do love the bike weve got a sort of bond really after sharing 55k miles together, touring europe and lots of weekend adventures with clubs like ABR and others.
since i bought the bike i have done everything to her, full arrow exhaust system, power commander, ECU flash remap, k&n airfilter, crash bars, spot lights, bash plate, adjustable screen, heated grips, number plate S10ERE,
gel seats,
and i have just had all the bearings everywhere replaced, wheels, head, swing arm e.t.c. new proggresive fork spings + seals, spark plugs + coils, i did this work to be ahead of the game really as i didnt want stuff failing whilst on a long tour, especially as i was thinking of riding her across america next year.
so yes ive done a lot of work making this bike my bike how i want it. now i have a problem ive fallen for the KTM 1290 super adventure i want one. but i clearly cant have both why have 2 adventure bikes, equally i dont have the space.
i just cant make my mind up what to do now haha, my bike is mine all payed for and im not going to get a lot for her with those miles on her even though shes been well maintained. im waiting to see the KTM dealer on saturday to give me a exchange price on my bike and test ride the KTM.
am i losing the plot lol
hard decision on changing bike
Re: hard decision on changing bike
For the pittance you'll get in a part exchange keep them both you will soon see wich one
You want to ride the most. Then think about selling on the other hand
Can't have to many bikes!!.

Re: hard decision on changing bike
its only money, if you can afford it then go for it!!!!!!
Watched MCN report on YouTube, they loved it, mind you you will be looking at at lest £10,000 to change I reckon.
I'd be interested in yours

I'm in the same decision making process.
Could have a new Africa twin but just struggling to bring myself to get shot of the 800gs.
Like you say you personalise a bike and bond with it.

Sadly too its quite likely that well maintained bike with a few miles up is likely to be a better bet for reliability. Its not a slight on the KTM, its just the way everything is going.

I'm really not convinced that the AT would be an improvement over your 800gs.bond_yzf wrote:I'm in the same decision making process.

I just can't help thinking the AT looks flimsy.
......The only other bike that could possibly temp me would be the new KTM 1090.
But it'd have to prove to be a bit special, the 800GS is such a bloody good bike.
I know I'll move on, but I'll always rate the 800gs and probably miss it.
Re: hard decision on changing bike
The S10 is a very good and capable Bike, I had one and was very surprised at how well they handle. I've now got a KTM1290 - the best bike I've ever owned.
I was lucky, my local Dealer had them on offer as the new model was coming out. they are an expensive bike but you get a lot for your money. Have a good long test ride (preferably in the dry to get the most out of it).
I think you'll like it
