yeah, I had a 1100 Pan European too .. brilliant bike, all day comfort and mile eater extraordinaire, very fast too, but very heavy in bends, plan ahead! ... what disappointed me was the Weight at standstill ... to dangerous to park!! often just kept riding.

my TTR600 was a great disappointment as I liked everything about it ... but the vibration ... it had to go.

my biggest disappointment was my CRF250X ... what a great bike, loved the looks, the handling, the suspension, off road use ... the whoosh of the engine on tarmac even ..but ... the seat!!! I only kept it a week! ... of course, the maintenance intervals may have ahd something to do with it too, when I found out. :pinch: :S

Many years ago I took a Pan European out for a trial ride from a dealer. It had done a huge mileage and it didn't impress me. When I got back to the shop they gave me another one to try which was almost new. Result? Still didn't like it.

Cz 125... absolutely crap in every way. Cb500/four gutless crap. Diversion 900 gutless and noisy with an appalling riding position.

Has to be an Africa Twin (the old one) proper junk. But it's almost like bikes have personalities, I had a KTM 300 exc 6 day which was the second one I'd had and it was a proper pain, I tried everything to make it work but it had to go in the end to be replaced with a 12 year old 525, which can't do a thing wrong.

WOW - perspective is such a funny thing

From page one (re the 990) opening I quote ....
It never let me down......but I felt it was inferior to the GS1200 I'd trading in to buy it.
It lacked the GS's comfort, economy, Torque and poise.

I have a 990R and the LAST thing it lacks is poise IMHO !!!!

BUT ... Look up the definition of "Poise" and it includes presence which is one thing that the R has in buckets!!
But then it also mentions gracefulness which this brute is not!

I have never owned a GS but I have ridden one and it just isn't for me!!
I don't want/need 2-up touring comfort ... I like a mean & raw experience

The 990 is thirsty but I am surprised that this bike disappoints anyone

Again - depends what you are looking for and what you expect from a machine

I also have a XT660R and this bike is a real treat

For lanes and off-roading abroad the bike is a marvel
It does roads well and also the trails too

It is priced at about 1/3 of a KTM 690 Enduro R

Value for money everyday at that price !!!

Poise......as in balance and control.
My 990r had a terrible weave at high speed, no amount of suspension fiddling could properly sort it.
I remember following my mate on his GS1200 TC when we were on a European tour.
I could definitely keep up and may be I could out-drag him, but I was dancing up and down on the gear lever, whilst his left foot remained stationary, he just used the big GS's Torque.
I was defiantly effected more with side winds and despite having the "Touring Screen" fitted I was catching more wind and rain.
The GS was so much more relaxing and comfortable on a long trip.

This is going to upset JB (and a few others) but it was a GS1150. Bloated overweight barge, I bought it to see what all the fuss was about and was thoroughly underwhelmed.

I went out and bought another KTM950ADV to regain my edge and the reason for riding bikes.

We're all different and we all like different bikes otherwise the world would be very boring.

The first VFR 800 V-tec.
I bought a black one because it was beautiful.
The 750 was great, so why bother with a test ride, just look at it, it's fantastic.....I thought!
Gutless, then it went manic for 3000rpm, then just died.
Horrible to ride.
It was The Honda Corporation being pointlessly complicated, just because they can.
