Ugly Bikes.

Post by SteveW »

There's a thread simmering along about the Tiger 1050, it's appearance has been called into question.
For me a bike's appearance is very much secondary to how it functions.
I had a KTM 990 which I thought was pretty gross in the looks department, I didn't let its ugly duckling looks put me off, unfortunately it also proved to be ridiculously thirsty and unstable over 100mph.
I'm waiting delivery of a CCM GP450s, which I'm sure wouldn't make the cut for the second round of the Miss Bolton Beauty Pageant.
I think the Tiger 1050 is a pretty good looking motorcycle, there again I think my GSA800 is a thing of beauty, as well as it being an exceptionaly good motorcycle.
I think the KTM 990adv just pips the Honda 1000 Varadero to first place on my ugly bike list. Strangely I think the
Varadero 125 is quite pretty.

Yes it is, I had the 855, which I think was slightly uglier.

You and me are going to fall out, the KTM 950/990 Adventures have an iconic outline, not far off the original desert racers.

Oh! and is there such a thing as 'Miss Bolton'

The Moto Guzzi Stelvio.
Ugly and weird looking, but strangely appealingly for some reason.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Our tastes change as we get older. In the 70's I couldn't wait to get rid of my butt ugly chocolate brown Yamaha XS 500 DOHC for the very attractive Lipstick red Suzuki GT 500. Now 4 decades on, I look back on the old dog with affection.

The Honda Transalp 700 is generally looked down on for its looks, especially the headlight, against its 600 and 650 forerunners. Tell you what, I love mine. So there, na na na na na.
