Are you sure you didn't leave your 950 and 400 alone together in the garage a few months ago?
I'm pretty sure you get he 690 when you cross a 400 with a 950.
I can recommend a Seat-concepts seat, if you plan some long hours in the saddle.
Very enjoyable bike.
Good choice.

They have been together a while but the expectation split them up. You may have hit the nail on the head.
The 400 has gone to a born again mate so I get a new trail riding buddy as well.

One reason for giving up the 950 is that I don't do the miles now. Having a road ride ride tomorrow to test it out and a quick trail ride at the weekend. MT21's look interesting - what the opinion on them?
I may get a spare 21/18 wheel set with more road orientated tyres for summer road, trail and horse trial riding.

I found the MT21 was good on the 950, felt good on the road but slightly vague at speed on forest tracks though, just didn't seem to grip well on corners but then it's a heavy bike and better forks might have sorted it.

I've often thought about a 690 but I've ended up with a more road orientated bike for road and touring and my old DR350 for trail riding, can't afford another bike YET

As you can tell, I've gone the other way and consolidated.
The 950 was getting too heavy for me to move around and I've fancied a 690 ever since I rode one on a Desert Rose try out day 6 years ago.

Thanks for the tyre input.

Only decent handguards and mini mirrors under the bars plus the rack you posted about.
I'll live with it a while and see what I might need after that.

It's only for localish riding (50 to 100 miles) and trail riding. No distance stuff for me now as my back wouldn't hack it.
