S10 Vs Africa Twin
S10 Vs Africa Twin
Has anyone here gone from an XT1200 Super Tenere to an Africa Twin (The new Model) ?

Weight saving for starters, isnt the s10 the weight of like a baby elephant or something?Nigel wrote:Why would you :whistle:DB1200 wrote:Has anyone here gone from an XT1200 Super Tenere to an Africa Twin (The new Model) ?

They strike me as 2 different bikes really. The S10 you can go off road on but more road biased, just like the Triumph Explorer. Where the AT is predominately offroad biased.
If I were doing road riding the S10 would get my vote. For someone who wanted more offroad capability but reasonable road manners the AT.
However I have ridden neither so could be talking shite..

Re: S10 Vs Africa Twin
Hi, I recently sold my S10 mostly due to having covered a good mileage and wanting to change to a lighter, more manageable bike. I don't go off road but do tour Europe every year and had considered the new Africa Twin as a friend had recently bought one.
I wasn't wanting the spoked and large diameter front wheel, especially with non tubeless tyres on the AT and for me the bike is too off-road oriented, so in the end went for a new Honda VFR800X Crossrunner (the new revised model) that I've now put 2,500 miles on and am 100% pleased with. A great bike, better suited for the roads and touring, a 17" front wheel and tubeless tyres, but with the styling of the S10 that I wanted, plus a great Vee4 engine. Now it's fitted with a set of Givi Outback Trekker Luggage am planning for next year's trip to Portugal and Spain.
Still, Bike styling is something that we all feel strongly about and what suits one person is usually quite wrong for another, so I'm sure that many AT owners will disagree completely with my comments, but with the great range of bikes and styles on the market today we can all spend hours deciding what we want next.

Re: S10 Vs Africa Twin
Thanks for the comments Mike, Over the years I've had a lot of bikes and not really make a bad choice until this year when I bought a Kawasaki GTR1400 that I just couldn't gel with and sold after two months and 3,500 miles.
Re: S10 Vs Africa Twin
Thanks John, that's more or less what I was thinking. I have ridden an AT (DCT) but found the S10 longer legged on the Motorway / Dual Carriageways and slightly better handling on the twisty's. As you say the AT is more for those that venture off road.
I was interested to see if anyone that had changed from an S10 to an AT found the same.

Hi DB, I'm sure you will come to a decision that best suits you, let us know what bike you end up with.
