Hi Markus, welcome to the shineray xy400gy ownership, WK 400 here in the UK...……..Romet 400 ADV where you are, yours with ABS !

I have set my valve clearance at IN: 0 .10 - EX: 0 .15 , they have been, IN: 0.15 - EX: 0.15 this is in metric

The manual I have, well one of 3 versions actually say:- IN: 0.07-0.10,EX: 0.08-0.12 …….valve gap tolerance range is +/- 0.03

You will notice I have my EX valve set slightly bigger, and my IN valve set at the upper end of the tolerance ! old school air cooled bikes can get very hot so just me airing on the side of caution...…….

Be good to see what you find when you get in there and how your bike runs before and after if any adjustment is needed

Thank you for that warm welcome and helpfull information. I will try to post some valve-adjustment fotos later that year, for other users to follow the steps.

3 first impressions to be shared:
- on my bike the footbrakelever has 2 bearrings both tight and rosted inside, not moving a tiny bit even after soaking in WD40.
So I greased the rod they slide on and now it works smoth that way.
- The lower front mutguard was not straight mounted and under pressure, the mounting holes needed to be widened to get a better fit and avoid later cracks.
- both throttle wires became silicon greased and the clutchcable oiled - what a difference.

Today after 15min rain drive, there was water in the airbox. One could pull off the drain-cap from outside to let it flow out, but I'll rather seal the screws that let it in.

On the rear i installed a softcase instead of the aluminum rack. You see on the pic that it's screwed directly into place:

Hi Markus, I decided to take a look in the airbox, luckily no water ingress as I went out the other week in some really heavy wet weather including some major flooding through Alfriston. As a precaution though I took out the bracket that goes from inside the airbox and hold the susspension mud flap on and gave it some silicone sealant……….all good

Good idea, I did it your way with silicone and it works great. While working on the valves (Foto of flywheel marker) unfortunatelly I discovered both throttle cables squashed and a hole rubbed through the outer breakline cover. It seems really necessary to rewire and tighten all hoses and wires....

Here i a foto of my valve values after 2200 km (first inspection). Afterwards there was no noticeable difference and the engine still feels a bit rough and sluggish between 4800 and 6000 rpm.

A short question, I have to choose from 3 breakpads, which perform best ?

1. FA664 organic
2. FA664TT carbon
3. FA664R sintered

Hi Markus, the valve clearance looks ok, did you line up TDC via the T mark when doing the adjustment, cant see from your photo but added one below for ref,...……………... with the valve caps off the valves will have some slack when at TDC

In terms of pads in the UK I've not been able to source different compounds but just changing the pads from stock makes a difference which is organic...……..they do sintered in the Ukraine but not here in the UK as far as I'm aware
