it will gary when its off the spines no bother ...put it on the splines and no matter what you do the holes will never match up on the wrong way around ..

I don't know, in reality, if it will fit in an alternative position
ie flipped along the horizontal axis
as I have not tried it, Steve.
but in theory
looking at the `right` pic
if you keep the left side on the left
and the right side on the right
but flip the plate over to the other side
(top goes to bottom, bottom goes to top)
then, it SHOULD fit?

but only because the 11 splines are symmetrical about the axis that joins the 2 hole centres?

well yes you can flip it over ...but its like saying you can flip a washer over ...in practice there is only one possible position the safty ring will fit ? thats the main point i think

ok garry ....... i surrender

does a nut on a bolt have two ways of being fitted or just one ? i guess it is two ,, so you are right ..question being does it matter? ..

its just that Andrew's post and explanation got me thinking .. in a dangerous way.
and I couldn't understand how I couldn't understand how to picture alternative positions for the plate.

but `does it matter` ?

only in a theoretical way
perhaps in a heretical way
perhaps in a world-changing way
perhaps in no way
