Just done a 40 000 mile service & it's started weeping from one of the filter nuts. It certainly doesn't want any more tightening so order a replacement filter gasket or any other advice you can offer?

Ps if anyone has a recommendation of where to find a gasket please let me know. Ebay & such just seem to have from US & insane postage costs :|

I would guess that a bit of gasket cement would do the trick?
me .. I would empty the oil, place in clean container for re-use.
clean and dry gasket, base, and cover.
put very thin smear of gasket cement (or summat) on every surface (4 no.)
reassemble and fill,
(check filter is correct way around first).
scream when it still leaks :D

Thanks chaps, 3rd birthday beginning of December so I'm having to remember how to get a bike ready for MOT.

I will get some of that adhesive & see how it goes

is there a secret to re-fitting the rear wheel to a Honda? :?

new rear tyre fitted yesterday, but really struggled to get the wheel fitted onto the crf250L swing arm.
I couldn't get the spacers in, on the right by the brake caliper, when the left spacer is already fitted?

in the end, I had to fit the one side, the right side FIRST (seemed to be impossible to fit the left side spacer first)
that is by fitting the brake caliper and spacer and then slightly inserting the spindle, then, with heavy levering, fit the left spacer second,
(then lift the chain over the rear sprocket)

am I doing something wrong? :?
(it just seems to be Hondas)

has something got to come off first?
it seems ridiculously difficult?
(... the brake caliper is part of the spacer/spindle, and has to slot onto a spigot on the swing arm)
will it make a difference if the chain adjusters are completely slacked off?

The Plunge has been taken, and the winner is .....

Its a CRF250L which will be gently changed into a Rally ish bike just without the big plastics really so as you do I'm trawling through looking for the bits that need to be changed/upgraded. When I bought big Yellow I dressed her in armour and I'm sure it saved me time and money in the long run without a doubt and now I've stripped it off and I can recoup some of the money to spend on more armour

Bash Plate --------- Ad tek or Adventure spec one look pretty solid to me ?
Rack ---- --------------Adventure spec again looked pretty good
Frame protectors -Zeta just cosmetic but I hate seeing the paint wearing off
Renthals + levers--Might just run stock for a while and see maybe just risers might do it?
Hand guards------- Got a set of laying about ready to go on looks like they should fit.
Bigger Tank--------- IMS and Acerbis both look ok
Radiator braces ---Can't seem to find any yet unsure about fit ,an important one for me as I do lay down Any suggestions???
Case savers ---------Adventure spec
Instrument bar-----Adventure spec
Soft luggage ---------Choices choices

What else should go on the list ?

Its funny reading through this list and excluding the luggage It comes to about £750 And apart from the tank I'd have wanted to put these on the Rally edition

nice if you can afford it :)
[mostly through lack of funds], all I got on mine is ..
Bash Plate (essential)
Hand Guards (yes, needed)
rear rack (needed, but awkward for the leg-over)

mind, I ride slow and carefully,
tipped it once or twice, but handguards saved the bar levers,
bash plate is pranged continuously,
rad seems fine,
even the gear foot lever has survived (no pivot)
the foot brake lever is bent now, but allows me through narrow ruts ok.

do we really need all the farkles? .. but good luck, its fun to get stuff :)

Hi Gary thank for the thoughts, what I've managed is to get a bike at a very good price and get more than I imagined on a trade in, even after taking off a bunch of re-sellable stuff off to recoup some money. I think I've boxed cleaver for once and caught a dealer at just the right time. I plan on doing an awful lot of miles on this one so its all about getting it right. I may well do it bit by bit to soften the financial blow. Are all the changes absolutely necessary well no I could ride it near stock and probably be happy enough but its about protecting against falls and making it more everyday and travel practical. I'm sure I could throw an awful lot of £s at suspension that I might not really need and a flash pipe but who knows if its really worth it ? I like this site a lot as people do things so very differently and still have fun.

id recomend a race tech front spring and a yss rear shock ...

really make the bike hugly better on the rough stuff particulary with luggage ....cost around 400 quid for both ..the difference is very big ,,instead of riding around potholes you will want to ride over them ... both items work very well

flatlands make a rad guard but you will have to pay the big postage and import duty ...i had a old peice of grill and made my own ..quite simply bent it by clamping a iron over it .......
that deffo paid for the effort ...must have rammed a branch somwhere ...strange i dont know when it happened ...

i dont get worried about extras on a crf as i reacon you are guarranteed to have them snapped up on ebay at around half price ..so if you spend a grand ..its only 500 quid
