All the possible positions were tried (ref the facebook post)--accept that Renthal fu"£ed up--and they have admitted that there was a faulty batch out there--but the dangerous thing is that they didn't (to my knowledge) do a recall and there may well be others lurking--the design has been like that from the 80s so it fits virtually all small Hondas--I think!--at least it was like that on my 89 NX250.

Just seen this on ADVRIDER - how to get 28hp by changing ECU to a late CBR250 one. I don't know if it works, but if it does, and I've no reason to doubt it, it's a cheap and easy fix.

ive seen the 250r ecu resul;ts ona older 250l engine and the results are marginal

that said the guy seems to know his stuff and if it has the higher lift exhaust cams from the cbr300 engine in place already the results should be different i think he will be right to a degree

i can tell you that the rally with a free flow and knobs put out 22hp at the rear so thats probably 25/26 in real money as knobs sap the dyno

that said there was at lift

the black is freeflow stock
the blue is ditto plus 250r ecu

its noy much in h/p but it picks up and revs much quicker off the bottom for sure ..the other downside is they are quite a lot overfueled so
it will impact on tank range noticably id think
if the 250r makes 28hp at the crank 24 on the dyno seems right ..significant as the standard older 250 puts out 18 at the wheel ..you can see the older 250 gets a significant lift ..but with the 250 ecu its not so dramatic ..but with a 38ml throttle body and higher lift cams it could well work better on the rally .it looks to get it in quicker ..but as the revs rise cant get it out ..so those different exhaust cams may just be what it needs

.you have ignition timing cps sensors and stuff to consider too .. hey but if you get a ecu off e bay for 60 quid what the heck ...they are out there ..a dyno run is 45 quid so theres not a lot to lose ..worth a punt for 100 quid id say 8-) :mrgreen:

ah right ... so that is one consideration when designing crf250L performance ..

Economy,
East (gentle) low down torque,
Longevity of motor (and services),

so it is attractive globally?
so perhaps converting it to an endure tool is .. er .. ?

Just bought a CRF250L 2017 for a winter bike. Standard except for heated grips but will add a few sensible stuff once its run in and I get chance.
Living near Lancaster I just need to find the Green Lanes for some gentle riding

Hey guys!

Just picked up a 2013 model with around 5000 miles on the clock

All pretty standard at the moment, but i love tinkering!

Got a flatland radiator brace making its way to me...

Also ordered a uniflow air filter and a moose expedition rack.

I'll be scouring this post for all the cool mods!

Does seem pretty hard to find service items in the UK

Are there any dedicated CRF250L forums in the UK?

probably the best mods to the crf250L are ..

bash plate
hand guards
heated grips
folding mirrors?
rear rack
panier racks, if u can find some?
knobbly tyres, to suit your riding
gear change by sprocket change/s


essential ..
change clutch plates to ebc full-size
change clutch springs to HD,,


more advanced ..
renthal bars, remove indicators and tail tidy? lighter exhaust?
change suspension .. racetech?, yss?, front and rear?
engine soup-up .. ejk/ airbox/ exhaust mod?

also ..
can alter seat height to suit .. cut down seat?, /raise suspension?, .. put forks through trees?, lower/higher rear shock?/ bar risers ? etc


(mostly std mods actually, to any trail bike)

If you want to find the lanes then may I suggest that you join the Trail Riders Association Ribble Valley Group, which is relatively close to your location;

An alternative might be the TRF which has numerous local Groups, all of which will make you most welcome. The only caveat is that folks are expected to contribute and not just turn up for the info.

A cheaper option might be to join GLASS which has their updated mapping facility Trailwise2. Although principally 4X4 orientated they welcome motorcyclists and supply many of the benefits of a biker only group;
