If you had a choice of these two

Post by redrooster »

BMW K750S or R80RS

Both in fair order. Both around 65k

Which would you choose for a bit of touring?
Reliability?
Saleability?
Parts availability?
Value?

k is £1200 with full ticket
R is £1600 with full ticket
Still searching!!!!!

IMHO the 75s was the finest of the bricks made, silky smooth, bullet proof engine, easy to maintain, great fuel economy . The 75 will still be running well after the boxer and I've had boxers all my adult life. (thumbs)

It would be the K for me. Owned a K100 for 10 years. A great bike.

Plus you will be £400 better off (thumbs)

I'd go for the boxer on the grounds that it's less complicated and the older that K series bikes get the more the electrics start to play up.

If both bikes were under 10 years old I'd have the K75 but they're both going to be older than that so go for simplicity.

Both will do the job......spent a few weeks in France last year with a friend who had a K75. He also has a K100RS K100LT and K1100RS. All different, but he loves the K75.

All bikes will potentially have issues, the Ks are really good for mile munching trips and the K75 is particularly smooth. Great K forum out there and fantastic parts availability.

There are a few age related things to look out for but good ones seem to go on forever.

The £400 difference would cover a lot.
1992 K100LT June 2010 110,000 miles
1984 K100RT July 2013 36,000 miles, 90,000
1983 K100RS Nov 2018 29,000 miles, 58,600 miles
1996 K1100LT Oct 2020 37,990 miles, 48,990 miles
1984 K100 Sprint March 2023 58,000 miles, 62,000 miles

B)

I like both bikes, but I would have to come down on the K75 they are truly a much underrated machine, an old pal of mine had both to my K100 and the 75 was so smooth its the counter balancer fitted to the 75 and not the K100 that makes the difference.
Spares are available new or second hand for both and at 65000 that is nothing for a K75
and as mentioned by a previous post the forum's are a wealth of information and help.
Whatever your choice enjoy.
