Banged my head and up popped a question....
Why do petrol engine motorcycles not use diesel engine hydraulic valve technology....
My diesels regularly do.180,000 mls with just oil and filters...no complicated strio it down valve shims....or even adjustment by screw locks....
Got to be a illogical reason...lol

Re: Bikes with hydraulic valves...?
i suppose cost/weight/space would be the answer. although the cynic in me says it cos the industry can milk us for servicing. maybe the high rev'ing nature of performance engines have something to do with too, and not enough money in doing it for lower performance bikes?

Plenty of car petrol engine use hyd tappers
But I suspect that it's not used in bikes due to high rpms

I used to instruct on a Honda CB400 Super Four - the grey import. Hydraulic tappets, in 60,000 miles I never once went inside the engine, just changed the oil.

so Honda did it why they change then....most dual sports or adventure whatever arent high reving...
frequent service intervals are a ball ache too...most modern cars, lorries run similar oils and have double the mileage between services....oils changed to allow this but bikes did not..
ktm need high spec oils at high cost ....surely they dont need it and all the maintenance required is crazy...you dont see sports cars in the garage every 6 mnths for a overhaul.. :woohoo:
