If it all eventually points at the CDI you might want to weigh up the risk of sawing into it (but it's cheap!) versus getting it looked at professionally (at a price) Electrexworld

No connection (!) other than I've bought a few bits, - reg/recs mainly, from them in the past and it's always been good quality stuff

Thanks for the link.
I will have a look myself as I am trying to keep the costs down.
My aim is to get it on the road for less than £500 all in.
Cheers

I have got the bike into my garage and had a quick look at it.

Besides not starting, the only things obviously wrong are;

A broken top yoke.

How easy are these to swap?

The exhaust plumbed in with Jubilee clips and baked bin tins;

And the rear foot pegs missing;

I am going to keep an eye out for a top yoke and foot pegs and have a go at starting it when I get a chance.

Cheers.

I had a bit of time working on the bike this week.

I stripped the saddle, tank, rear mudguard and cowling off.

Good News - It has a spark, so the CDI is not knackered. :)

Bad News - It still doesn't start. :(

The sparkplug was dry so my next plan is to strip the carb and replace the old petrol in the tank.

It starts!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

It took;
A new spark plug.
The tank drained and refilled
The Carb removed and drained and cleaned
Petrol sqirted down the intake!

It still doesnt start without a squirt of petrol but then it runs fine on tickover so I am guessing the choke is dickie.

I am just happy that its not a scrapper.

Next stage is an MOT.....

I'm in the mindset to pick up a winter project myself.

Been surfing Fleabay and other sites, surprising what's about. :ohmy:

Nice to see you now have a runner, makes the rest of the work easier somehow knowing it runs. :)

Yes, it does seem as though I have reached a milestone.

There is always a risk when buying a non runner off Ebay that there is terminal damage.

What are the chances of passing the MOT with the 2 into 1 silencer it has fitted?

Never been an issue with my local guy, he knows the standard can would be swapped back after the test.
Still got the standard set-up on my GS, bit quiet but I like it that way now, must be getting old. :(

Where is that twin headlight screen combo from that you plan to fit?
