Which is why the big manufacturers won't build the lightweight, off-road adventure bike everyone on this forum keeps begging for.

I went from a 1200GSA to a 800GS, and was happy enough on it for 20,000 miles in less than a year no problems bar a chain and sprocket at 17,000 miles a great bike, but it's not as good as the 1200 when loaded up to the hilt
Now got a 1200 again and can see what I missed on the 800 (thumbs)

So, that begs a question...

Why go back to a Boxer GS?

You must have been dissatisfied with the 800GS or you would have kept it

Dissatisfied is not the word to use for the 800GS I had,

it's just that the 1200 is so good at everything I use it for,
The 800 is a underated bike and would recommend one to anyone (thumbs)

Just a quick question, how well does the standard r1200GS windscreen work vs the standard r1200gsa?

Or is there another screen that is better?

Just asking, since I wasn't too convinced with the one on the F800GS (either the standard or the touring, although it was better.) When I test-road the F800GSA it felt much better and improved.

Hiya
I'm seriously thinking about going the same way you went with regard to going own to the 800. What swayed it for you?
I really only do roads but saying that I do long trips. My current ADV is two years old with 25,000 miles on it..

If the 800 would have been available at the time, I bet Ewan and Charlie would have used it.
Much better for the type of riding they did.
Then may be we'd have seen a surge in the 800 sector?

I have an R1200GS (standard) from new 2012 model (pre LC). You don't say if LC or none LC, as the screens are way different. However, initially I got on very well with the standard GS screen until I changed my helmet to one with a peak (Shoei Hornet), where I noticed a bit more buffeting than before. I set off on the quest of installing a GSA screen which I found bloody awful to be honest (I'm 5' 10'') , I started down the road of fitting a Touratech Spoiler and stopped short at fitting those awful looking winglet things that require drill holes in the bodywork. Anyway, I ended up buying a Givi Airflow, and it's the best screen by far for the GS - best £130 I've spent. Many GSA owners have fitted the Airflow too and never looked back. (thumbs)
