triumph bonneville as an alternative adventure bike
Re: triumph bonneville as an alternative adventure bike
I'm watching this thread very closely as I'm really tempted to trade my GSA in for a new Bonnie 1200 in the the spring after seeing it at the bike show. I think it looks superb and after seeing Godspeed's bike with the panniers, it's virtually made my mind up.

Took the bike out for a quick blast this morning. I was thinking about something else recently, but then you get back on it and instantly it feels rightCharlie the Bikemonger wrote:@godspeed.. What auxiliary lights are you using there, and do they help? The stock headlights are a bit shite, so I'm looking for more illumination.
The lights are from Zen Overland, I originally bought them for my MT350, but moved them onto my Bonny instead. They're called Rigid Industries, not cheap, but very good quality and minimal drain on battery for the light output. I'd recommend them and Gabe at Zen Overland for advice on what to get.

Re: triumph bonneville as an alternative adventure bike
If you mean a steady, reliable bike for riding around the world (in whatever chunks you wish) I'd say why not. If you want to do triple jumps and back flips I'd say no>
All you need is 2 wheels and an engine and a way to carry however much or little you wish to take with you on your epic or not so epic journeys.

I use a Wolfman Beta Plus bag on the pillion seat of my Bonnie and an Ortleib duffel on a luggage rack when touring. Lovely bikes to ride.
Re: triumph bonneville as an alternative adventure bike
Interesting thread, thinking of trading in my versys 1000 for a bonnie! Just haven't bonded with it! It's hard, how much do you keep a bike because it's pratical verses changing to something that you love but isn't as practical!

This has probably been seen before but it seems to be a fairly honest appraisal of a Bonneville by an owner rather than an observer (thumbs)

Suspension always seems to be an issue with new machines.AndyB wrote:This has probably been seen before but it seems to be a fairly honest appraisal of a Bonneville by an owner rather than an observer (thumbs)
Now I know for a fact that Triumph spend a lot of time road testing machines before their release & I'm sure they are not bloody minded enough to purposely equip the machines with poor suspenders.
Even with budget suspension it can't be too dificult to get the oil, valves & springs giving a half decent ride.
Must be the criteria they are working to is not a Mr Average Rider on Tarmac specification, but what it is who knows!!!!
