Isn't the S10...... heavy

Post by johnnyboxer »

Had a good look around a nice used S10 yesterday, in a bike shop

Seems all well screwed together, apart from the exhaust designer who needs to go to Specsavers

Went to pick it up from the sidestand to feel the weight, whilst holding onto the rack

Blimey she's a lardy old girl, now I know where the over 260kg quoted weight comes from now

I don't fancy pushing that around the garage and it felt heavier than my 1150 GSA, maybe because the weight was higher CofG?

It is heavier than the GSA by about 30kg....

I have a K100LT and a K100RT and there is a weight difference between them that words don't describe. The RT felt nimble by comparison with the LT. The difference in weight was down to stuff added to the LT like entertainment, heated grips, ABS, some different body parts but significantly almost all of the extra weight is up higher. I cant get my feet flat on the ground on either so this makes the weight difference more significant. The K100RT is much the same weight as the GSA and I feel is my limit of what I can manage.

Strange...yes on paper the S10 is a heavy old girl but the first thing I noticed when lifting off side-stand was how light she felt especially after owning a varadero....put this down to the very low centre of gravity the bike has.

It is heavy, really heavy.

I think, for me, it was probably an age thing (59) as I had one for three months only.

It's a lovely, lovely bike on the move and so beautifully balanced.

As a 'dead weight' it's damn awkward to move due to the weight. I found it heavy around the 'house' so to speak and also around camp sites, car parks, and all such places. Anything involving 'paddling' on an everyday level was such an effort.

But it's a great engine (thumbs)

Did Yamaha put all the heavy expensive parts on the S10 as low as possible to ensure they sell lots of replacements when the bash plate fails?..

My Tiger Sport is 235kg wet, and I've given up pushing or padding it around, unless it's just backwards out of the garage. It's just easier to jump on and start the engine, and think when you're parking it so that you're facing the right way on the way out.

Yes it bloody well is and I have already tested my crashbars in the lay over test  Heaviest bike I have ever had but it should do the job intended which is mainly touring.

Yes she`s a big ole girl when you push her around but you can ride to a standstill feet up she is so well balanced (thumbs) as for lifting her off the sidestand no worse than the 800 GS I had and not as top heavy  also better balanced on the centre stand and no harder to get on the stand (thumbs)
