well done--good analysis gets there--and with twin plugs off the same coil how do you know?--I have a 600 Alp. Two of the 4 plugs are easy enough to get at but the other two are a PITA--fortunately all 4 have been renewed recently.

New chain and sprockets raised gearing with 16 tooth front on a cb500x and its a different bike ,smoother and more relaxed to ride

Yep, this is what told me it was an ignition problem - wet/black plugs to one cylinder saying fuel was getting through but not igniting. The other plugs show a good colour, with the fuel mixture appearing of a correct ratio and burning as it should. As you say, the older Alps (and older AT's) have individual coils for each plug whereas the later models have common coils for each cylinder.

New chain and sprockets last night. Old chain off and binned, rear wheel out and cleaned up, fitted shiny new supersprox sprocket, all nicely torqued up. Then spent an hour looking for the new front sprocket in the satanic pit that is my garage. Decided it had never arrived, headed indoors to send a complaint, only to find a courier email saying it was delivered in May. After another lengthy search it was found, safe and well, under the front sprocket cover on the bike. Doh!
(Forgot I fitted it just before my last weekend away because the old one was starting to hook. At that time I was still waiting for the new chain).

Well after several phone calls to AdventureSpec‘s call center over the last few months asking for someone at AS to ring me back (which they never did ) I’d just about given up hope of finding a set of side racks for the T7 as no stock was available from other suppliers.

As luck would have it, a quick check on Ebay at the weekend secured an ‘as new‘ set for a good price.

They arrived today so i’ve just spent a happy couple of hours adapting my existing rear rack so all the bolt holes line up.

Fit and finish is great, they’re really light and offer ideal support to my Mosko Moto R80 panniers so no more scratched/cracked side panels during the Welsh TET trip I’ve got planned straight after the ABR festival as I’m in no doubt the bike will end up on its side on more than one occasion!

More what I’ve done for my new bike today……….paid for it!!

Re-wired the headlamp and de-bodged various other front-end electrics. Fitted new wheel bearings front and back. Changed gearbox/clutch oil, bled clutch hydraulics with fresh DOT4. Fitted new 14 tooth front sprocket ready for Spain.

All ready to be abused again. I fix it, I smash it up. I fix it, I smash it up....

Well quite often it's my own historic bodging that I'm undoing! You know how it is with dirt bikes. You bodge it up with zip-ties and insulation tape so that you can get back out there, and then you have a periodic 'up-on-the-bench' restoration session with some shiny replacement parts to get it back to how it should be. All ready for the next crash, the next bodge, the next repair, and the circle of dirt life continues...
