Started to recommission my DRZ400S after 10 years unused collecting dust at the back of the garage. The engine turned over fine with a donor battery replacing the original (which unsurprisingly had dropped to 0.18 volts with 10 yrs of non-use). With a fat spark at the plug, the motor wouldn't fire up. The plug was found bone dry and the fresh fuel was coming out of the overflow pipe. So, it looks like a fuel issue with the carburetor, which then came off. A tip for making carb removal easy - unbolt the rear sub-frame and move it rearwards along with the air box and rear rubber connector, this makes it easy to pull the carb out of the front rubber connector. Next job is to check the efficacy of the float valve seating and check/clean the cold start circuit and slow run jet. Or maybe get everything ultrasonically cleaned..... never had this done before, is it as effective as it's rumoured to be?

Whilst the carb is off might I suggest that it could be worth your squirting a little light engine oil into the cylinder, it will slowly slip down past the piston rings and help with restoring compression. Just leave the spark plug out and turn the engine over to disperse any excess left in the bore, oh and the engine will probably smoke for a while after starting.

clean chain and spray with chain oil
adjust chain carefully, if needed
spray bike with gt85
check front brake calliper and clean and ease if needed including pads and disc (poor performance in the wet)
book mot and take up to Treorchy
pass with flying colours and go for a joy ride.

got out of bed
saw it was now dark so went back to bed

I've 90% completed the fitting of Barkbusters, heated grips, & Grip Puppies to my cb500x, to get the grips to fit you need to remove the little pips from the throttle tube, a bit of a faff but instead of using a file I whittled them off carefully using a craft knife, one tip I picked up from the net for fitting the Puppies was to put 3 cable ties lengthways on the heated grips, lubricate the Puppies with soapy water as usual but they slide on easier over the cable ties as opposed to the rubber grips, once on pull the ties out, simples. All that's left now is to tidy up the wiring as I'm OCD as far as wiring is concerned so plenty more cable ties to apply. Now thinking I fancy some short levers to gives a bit more clearance for my JCB bucket sized hands inside the B.buster frames?

Removed front brake caliper from my Honda Innova as the brakes were badly sticking on as the bike hasn't been run since 2014.
Both brake pistons weren't moving much when I pumped the lever, so a good lashing of WD-40 and let it work it's magic and soak in for 15mins etc, along with a small hard brass brush, eventually I got them both working and cleaned up the brake pads which have plenty of beef on them as the bike has only ridden 1250 miles in its lifetime.

I'll get the Innova taken to a local garage for it's MOT next week etc...

Took carbs off my old 78 Guzzi Lemans. Striped them down for a refurb'. The bits are currently soaking in petrol. Fitting new oil breather pipes too. Such an easy bike to work on.
