Greetings Richard,

Apologies for the delay in replying.

Before the Peaky Boulders I had drained the old oil and cleaned the clutch plates.

The previous owner had given me a litre of oil but I had misplaced it, any way found it and used that.

The clutch was better from a gear change point of view but only slightly improved finding neutral.

I am going to replace the oil again soon. I have a litre of Motul 10w-30 plus Rock oil 20w-50 in stock and a litre of Rock oil 10w-40 on order. Hopefully another drain and refill should improve on the progress so far.

TTFN

Hugh.

Ahhhh the 'old pig' CX500 ... my first ever 'big bike' .... passed my test on a Suzuki TS185 then bought a CX500 :) ... I will always remember it (Black one) as the day after I picked it up the dealer did a deal on new GSX 750's (square'ish headlight) and I was blazing as I would have bought one of them!!!
However ... I then had a love affair with the CX500 for a couple of years and loved it.

Yours looks brilliant mate ... well done!

Thank you, i just tried the XJR front end and it worked. It's my third CX, my first two were despatch bikes which i really didn't know much about, just used and abused, but this one i stripped completely even the engine and made sure it was in good working order and replaced anything suspect because i didn't want to drop the engine again. Spent more on spare parts than i bought the bike for :o

A front end off an XJR1300? awesome :) Had a fair few of those over the years as well, great bikes.
I remember the CX500 having a noticable shaft 'pick up' when you let the clutch out but soon got used to it ... it seemed much chunkier a bike when it came out and felt a proper bike. Yours reminded me of flicking through bike mags and then seeing your version, then sitting there dreaming of riding through sweepys in California  whilst it was slashing down outside my bedroon window ... great memories, it was all GS850's, CB900's and Kawasaki LTD's in those days, no doubt poor compared to modern stuff but it was what my dreams were built on back then!

I was actually a XJR1200 front end which came off my bike that i've put a FZR100EXUP RU front end on. I've changed this bike again with now standard cans and non wavy discs but you get the idea.

I tidied up the Barkbusters that were badly fitted on the Scrambler I bought recently & I changed the Storm guards for VPS.

Today I has been spannering (well mainly side cutters) a LoobMan chain oiler onto the Tenere 700, simple tech - press the button oil runs down pipe to a dripper at the rear sprocket :) Not bad for £20 :D

I fitted Grip Puppies & a side stand foot to the Scrambler, need the GPs for my arthritic fingers. The stand foot only took 12 days delivery from China.

Last week I was riding along and it felt like I hit a bit of rubbish. Didn't think much more of it. Today I've gone to mount my luggage ready for the Adventure fest tomorrow and found my exhaust heat shield is gone. I can only assume these two events are linked...

Anyway I needed a quick fix so I've wandered round the house until I found a bowed metal shower screen handle with M5 thread and bolted it on...

And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

The headlamp is going to get a guard next looking at the extra metalwork on the ground that would be my thinking anyway, love the shower curtain rail too,
