Girlfriend wants a learner bike

Post by davec »

I finally got my Varadero back on the road last week and on Monday we bought Kate, my girlfriend a helmet and I took her out for a bimble around the Malmesbury area. She loved it and is now very keen to get a bike of her own and has booked a CBT.

I don't know a lot about the smaller bikes but we like the look of the baby Vara. What bikes would people recommend for a beginner?
I got a motorbike for my wife...

Best swap I ever made.

Varadero 125, if you have the money. Otherwise CG125, YBR 125, All reliable, brilliant on fuel and good starter bikes.

Id go for Baby Vara. My wife bought one recently and is currently on her last stage of her test, just the Mod 2 to go for next week.

The Vara 125 is a great bike to learn on. Will have hers up for sale in the next week, looking for £1600. She is doing direct access so already bought a 650 for her so the Vara will be of no use next week (assuming she passes!)

Hi Davec,
If you look at my threads just sold my 125cc Varadero. Learnt on and went through all tests too. For me was so reliable and very forgiving at the beginning. So comfortable and was sorry to let her go but time to move on. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend for a beginner bike and on average 80+ mile to the gallon. A definite "YES" ;)

It all depends how tall she is.
My wife (5'4") did her CBT on a YBR125 which was ok but really a bit tall for her so we bought a Suzuki Vanvan which she loves.

My girly is 5'2" and learning on a 56 plate YBR. It's not as big as the newer model - she copes fine with it. In Malmesbury if your lady wants to sit on one :-)
