Super Tenere not taking a charge

Post by midlife »

Hi There
My Super Tenere has 2 aftermarket 12v sockets fitted. For 5 years I have used an Optimate without any issues whatsoever. I rode the bike about 600 yards recently and now the optimate is not charging the battery (the green light is on saying that it is switched on but not searching or charging)
I tried a different charger and the same thing happens. Out of curiosity I tried a air compressor in them and that worked so there is obviously some function. Both of my sockets are into a fused box.
Any Ideas what is wrong please?

A couple of suggestions;

Battery fully charged so it doesn’t need charging?

Optimate failed?

Er...that’s all for now

Can you measure the voltage of the battery itself, then the voltage at the socket?

Sounds that the optimate is not actually connecting to the battery, fuse gone or a broken wire?
You could try connecting the optimate direct to the battery to confirm the above.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
If the fuse had blown, would the Air compressor still have worked?

It may be the Optimate

Mine did the same, they break after a while

Now use a CTEK charger

Is the fused box ignition switched?

Have you tried using your optimate directly onto the battery using crocodile clips?

As suggested above try connecting the Optimate direct to the battery.

If it works then clean the contacts in the 12v socket.
