To Helicopterman: I'm genuinely full of admiration for the design, engineering and assembly skills you clearly have to do this project. I couldn't begin to do it. But I am wondering, WHY? Why are you building a half scale landrover?

I promise I'm not asking in order to make a point, or denigrate all your amazing hard work. Not at all. I'm just genuinely interested in your motivation for such dedication. Is it for a kid to drive? Or literally just an exercise to see if you can do it? And why not just build/restore a full size landrover?

Next bit was for the engine/gearbox to have a complete makeover as touching 60 years of age.
The first engine i bought complete was internally a basket case and had to be scrapped so ended up buying a reliant regal complete, driving it and doing doing multiple oil changes to give it a head start in its new life :D

Hi Dave.
Good question, when you see the size if my mrs then you will understand why i need to head for the garage!
No seriously :D i built one in 93 but didn't have the cash to finish it and very sadly had to sell it as was up shit creek and I regretted alot ever since.
It was just at the drivable stage but i was close to being financially stuffed so it had to be sold.
Like an idiot I didn’t do any plans as was all ad hoc and a couple of pics was all i had so the guesswork starts all over again.

I would like to do an original 80inch but i dont have the space, i only have a small garage so this kinda fits

So earlier on in the build the engine was stripped and checked internally , new big end shells and standard sized pistons were found.
Also came across :
new sump
Oil pump and drive gear
New Carb complete
All timing wheels and chain/tensioner
Dizzy base and internals
Starter motor
Waterpump
Rocker shaft
Head taken off and refurbed.

Overall it was in great condition but replaced old for new where ever i could.
The original dynamo was way to big so used a Alt of a kubota ride on mower, even then its bloody tight.
