Yamaha TTR 600RE front master cylinder

Hi all

I have a 2004 TTR600 which has had its brake master cylinder and lever replaced with something non-standard. The set-up is really yucky, with two mirror take-off points and a lever which has had a screw sort of brazed on the end, plus the top of the reservoir tends to foul the control cables unless it is set at a weird angle. All this bodging means that whoever did it couldn't find a way to make the brake light switch fit, so I have no brake lights operated from the front. As I don't know what the master cylinder is actually from, my intention is to replace the whole thing with something else (with a working switch!).

The problem is that it is impossible to find a cheapish used TTR600 master cylinder (p/n 5CHF583T0000) in the UK and buying in Greece is a series of dead ends, so the route I am hoping to take is to fit something from a different make/model of bike. My logic told me to look at something like the Yamaha XT of the same era, as they are distant cousins, or maybe go down the Brembo route by looking for something Italian like a Pegaso 650 unit.

Anyone ever done this swap? Any thoughts on what might fit?

Alternatively, perhaps someone can recognize the master cylinder which is on the bike now, and then I can track down the correct switch? The only markings I can see is a sort of "H" logo.

Many thanks

John

Thats a brembo master cylinder as used on ccm 644,404 and lots of ktm... Their is a spring that activates the piston in reservoir and a plastic switch that works by lever and 2 cables... About 5 quid for switch on fleabay... Or why not replace the whole reservoir with a switch off a ktm etc.. More pics would maybe help find a replacement.

Thank you Tramp, that is perfect info. Here are all the photos I have.

The whole assembly doesn't really fit very well, but maybe getting just a KTM switch would do for now!

Cheers

John

will this not work as its just a screw in simple switch used on most dirt bikes...?

Thanks Tramp. It looks a good fit, and I also came across this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KTM-KTM-Ark- ... 1216861614

Do you think go for the Honda one, or the KTM one? The Honda one looks better made.

Cheers

Hi folks and sorry for the very late update on this (it always annoys me on forums when the story is left open-ended!).

I managed to get hold of a decent used original TT600RE master cylinder, with a broken lever. One new lever and a trip to Greece later, and the assembly is fitted to the bike. While I was at it I changed the left hand switch gear, too, as the main/dip switch wouldn't latch.

Cheers
