V-Strom DL1000 heated grips stopped working (??)
My 2008 (UK) model Suzuki V-Strom DL1000 GT's handlebar heated grips have now stopped working, first time in ten years, does anyone know if there's a fuse to find or replace somewhere on the bike please..? These are not an aftermarket fit, the heated grips were on the motorcycle as standard when I bought it brand new in 2008.
I've had a look under the riders seat and checked the main fuses but there doesn't seem to be a dedicated fuse located there for the heated grips.
Any advice welcome.

In-line fuse on the main feed between battery and switch?

Nope, I'm not on the Strom forum.
I'm not sure if there's an in-line fuse located between battery and switch...??

Re: V-Strom DL1000 heated grips stopped working (??)
if they are factory fitted,
I would guess that they are connected to a relay and a sub loom to the main wiring loom ??
perhaps the relay or connector to the loom is faulty or has a loose wire
so perhaps trace the wiring to the connector ?
I would guess that the grips are wired through to the main fuse box via the main wiring loom, so check all accessory fuses etc?
the other thing is .. after 10 years the wiring may simply have worn out or burnt out
also check the wiring at the grips (end), as it can fray there
also .. check out the on/off switch for bad connection?
possibly similar to this??

shows the type of wiring/connectors to be checked and cleaned ..

There will be an in line fuse between the controller and power supply.
If you can use a tester to see if you have power to the control unit.
Give you a starting point.
Controllers known to fail and are replaceable.

I don't own a tester. Does the engine need to be running for the grips to heat up I wonder?

You can make a tester with a 12v bulb and holder, and a couple of bits of wire with sewing needles to poke through the insulation of the wires you are testing.
The guts of an old indicator are ideal...the wires already attached to the bulb holder.

Re: V-Strom DL1000 heated grips stopped working (??)
No
Some grips are connected direct to the battery via a fuse of course, so stay on when the ignition is off.
Some have a loom, to the live, so cut off when the ignition is off.
Some are direct to the battery but have electronics that cut them off when the ignition is off.
when the engine is running, the battery is charging and the grips are powered off the generator
but is not really needed for the grips to work (I think)
all that is needed is a 12v supply from the battery
either directly or through the ignition when turned on.
(please correct, if I am wrong)
ps … perhaps you could replace the controller with a simple on/off switch .. to test or to use ?
