Yes, the prize goes to Steve.

What I think may have been the problem is that one of the three small spring loaded connectors within the switch might have been touching and making contact but not firmly enough because I was getting readings. I should have used a test lamp rather than a multimeter and the bulb might have shown a light but it could have been 'dull' and that would have been the clue. Very head scratching especially for somebody like me who hates electrickery :lol:

Once again thanks to everybody who passed on ideas.

I am going out later today to give it a test run before being required for the Airedale trial.
