I've used renthal for the last 8 to 10 chain and sprocket changes yes they are slightly dearer and my mechanic said they won't last as long as a jt set of sprockets but guess what they all have and will be using them again when the big katoom needs them plus they look a shit load better

Renthal rear sprockets 'chainwheels' are made from a specialist aluminium alloy...which means they are lighter but slightly less durable than JT, which are steel.

But Renthal front sprockets are steel (like all front sprockets). Because front sprockets have fewer teeth, they usually wear out before the rear sprocket, irrespective of the material used.

One thing to watch...a front sprocket that is too hard, or an imperfect fit, will wear out the output shaft...and it's a big job to replace that. Many people will only use OE front sprockets for that reason.

Also, it helps to grease the splines before fitting the sprocket. Corrosion between the two can cause the fretting that causes wear.

Plus one for fitting genuine front sprockets as previous post have said . I managed 42,000 miles out of my first genuine chain fitted to my 1000 Varadero , the chain it's self was still in the green at the adjusters but the front sprocket was well worn .
I replaced with DID X RING + genuine front & JT rear sprockets
Some people in the past have bought bikes only to find out that the front sprocket has been welded on to the output shaft .
