BMW sat nav help reqd.

I’m away in France on day 1 with a mate on his 13 plate GS with the latest BMW sat nav which is a Garmin unit I believe. He hasn’t got detailed maps of France. He only has “North” which I presume is UK and upwards. It was working fine in UK obviously. We have a laptop with us and have tried to put “Full Europe” on, but no luck. Where do we get the maps????

Garmin express I'd imagine would update said nav ??
