CCM 404 DS starting problem
Re: CCM 404 DS starting problem
If there's a spark (which there is) and fuel (you tried "easystart" down the air intake I think but also check for a wet plug) then the engine will start. Unless the quantity of fuel/air is not right (eg choke), the spark is at the wrong time (advance/ mech or sensor), the spark is too weak (under compression it's different to free air, it shouldn't be tracking along the outside of the leads but look for a crack), there is no compression (valves/head), the crankcase isn't breathing.
Also always check the sidestand switch

Exhaust blocked? if not put palm over while cranking, can you feel pulses so you know engine is pumping so valves are opening and closing and air intake is allowing air in.

Re: CCM 404 DS starting problem
Maybe blocked off the air intake when fitting the tank?
On my ktm I overoiled the foam filter which resulted in air not getting through to carb thereby making the mixture too rich to ignite.

Sorry for no recent replies, and thanks for your suggestions.
I've put it to one side for the moment, because if I'm going to do things like open up the rocker cover and pull the carb then it's best to give myself a clear day to do it.

Re: CCM 404 DS starting problem
Do the simple stuff first .. it's probably a blocked pilot jet .. clean carb again. check air filter again. Check ign plug again
Also clean petrol tank and lines and filter.
(Experience from my old TTR 600)
Poke pilot jet with a thin wire to clear gunk

Re: CCM 404 DS starting problem
Well, Hello everyone,
Today, I finally discharged all my work, parental care, step-grandchild duty, gardening and DIY and retreated to the garage.
Sadly, the bike had not cured itself.
Carb off ...all good... a nice squirt of fuel from the accelerator pump observed.
Exhaust off...all free of obstruction...no circlips or bits of pistons to be found.
Have done a bit of desk research, and found this

So valve & timing check next on the list.

Richard....your seeing too much into the problem as in first post you said it started okay after youd messed ?ohh umm fixed it ...but just removed and replaced tant and its since refused to start....does the drz have a hidden diode in loom hnder the tank like the dr650,350...?
Does the sidestand switch connector live by the top frame...its something simple so try the wiggle test while pressing startor button...
