Radiator technical advice

Post by Mikekitts81 »

I took my radiators of the bike while doing valve clearance checks they are a bit shabby and i would like to renew them or should i say make them look abit better so what are the processes of colouring radiators

do they spray them ?
Or atleast can they be sprayed

I assume that spraying them would be to much of a coat which would not be a good heat conductor to let it out am i right .
All things built not bought . The only way is adventure .

I've sprayed radiators with a single coat and no adverse effects.
The one on my Daytona 675 is black so pretty sure that's all that had on it originally before it flaked off.

Clean them (carefully) by all means, but more paint would be a bad idea.

It's not so much the extra insulation as the obstructed air passages that would be the problem caused by another coat of paint.

I've spray painted many rads after they have been cleaned and never had an over-heating problems.
Admittedly they have all been on un-stressed engines that weren't tuned to the "nth" degree to gain extra power  ;)

If a thin coat of paint is going to give you a problem then the corrosion caused by no paint will probably give you the same problem so I'd go ahead and give them a coat of matt black from a rattle can.

I wouldn't advise brush coating with hammerite however. :o
