Satnav Coordinates

Post by gbags »

Hi Techies,

I’ve just been introduced to iOverlander but it uses coordinates instead of locations. I know how to use coordinates on maps but how do I use them on a satnav please?

I’m using a Garmin 390LM but. I suppose they all use the same method to plot them?

Many thanks,

Graham

All the satnav's I've had have the option to enter coordinates instead of an address, it's usually under the search address options, you can usually find an option for postcode, address, place name, near here or Coordinates.

just ensure you're using the same format. easiest is digital ie hhhhh.dddddd

so, 54.33445, 002.44747

the latter is sometimes expressed as a minus eg -2.44747 but you will input it as 002 etc

I wish the whole world used digi coords etc, even for postage.

I wish the whole world would use https://what3words.com simple and everyone can understand. A unique easy to read address that pinpoints down to 3m×3m anywhere in the world. (Ideal for deserts, or on water)

Thanks Guys,

Bowser, I’ll look for that.

Mike and Fried egg, I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about but I’ll try to work it out.

I should have said

Hi Techies, please speak slowly and simply.

Thanks again

Hi Mike,

Your coords are up in the Lake District?

The problem is that I have no idea what village or town they’re near. I put the coords into the satnav and that worked, then asked for the route and it showed the route. Can I look that up on, say, Googlemaps, to see where it comes out?

it's just a random point on the map, there's nothing there but a stream.

Try this one, bit more fun. if its not immediately obvious, use street view
