Diagnostic quiz - indicators

Post by HarveyCamm »

Yesterday on the ride to work the left side (clutch) indicators stopped working - the lights on that side still flash when the alarm engages or disengages so I don't think it's wiring, bulbs or bad earths but they also don't work when the hazard lights (separate switch - ST1300) are switched on so I'm thinking the flasher unit rather than the switch being at fault. Right side indicators are still working fine.

Do you agree or have you got another suggestion, I'm all ears :)

Cheers

The alarm wires will be spliced in to the loom somewhere along the frame, which is why they work with the alarm and not with the switches. I'd follow the wires from the indicator switch and the hazard light switch and see where they join and you'll probably find a corroded connector or broken wire there.

Mr Holt - have 10 points for your diagnosis you were spot on - loose connector behind fairing.
While I'd got the fairing off I cleaned out the engine water tank as it was gunked with grey goo in the bottom, another little job done ,now for some more miles.

If the oil is OK, it could be the waterpump inner seal on its way.

The waterpump was attended to last year as part of some work so I hope that it's just that the header tank wadn't cleaned out at the same time but I'll keep on eye on it. The oil isn't emulsified

Thanks for the heads up chaps
