KTM 450exc charging voltage.

Post by Mad Hatter »

Hi guys, I picked up an 08 450exc last week that needed a little work doing.

Anyway I'm not entirely convinced by the stator output, originally I was only getting 12.8v out in the DC side, I cleaned up a lot of connections and changed a load as well and now I'm managing to get 13.5v out which doesn't seem too bad but it doesn't seem to move at all when the bike is revved.

So basically does this sound about right for any guys with KTM's?

See if it'll charge a low battery but 13.5v seems ok.
You can get new high output stators from trailtech in the uk, they also do a DC conversation kit which has a bit more umph than standard.

I'll have another check on the battery front tomorrow, hopefully the new one I've picked up will crank it over as my spare is a bit shit in all honesty.

I've seen the trailtech ones and its on the list of things to do now

Do not know anything about KTM's but usually when you rev the engine the charging voltage increases.

It does normally rise with the revs. As you’ve had some success cleaning up the connections did you remove the rectifier and clean that up especially where it bolts to the frame to Earth it. Clean up the earths too whilst your at it if not already done so.
