Ethanol Fuel (+ F**k morrisons)

I'm really curious what the hobby is that you need this, but it seems very secretive

Whilst I generally avoid all supermarkets wherever possible, of the three petrol garages on my route home Morrisons is by far the cheapest. I can also pay at the pump which I can't at the other two. I can tell absolutely no difference in terms of mpg between Morrison, Shell and Texaco (all standard unleaded) in either my CCM or my Cali. Performance wise I do not think there is any real difference although somehow Morrisons feels better than the other two. So for me they could get rid of the supermarket and keep the fuel station.
The one I go to is on the edge of Derby and is just as pig ugly as any other building nearby.

I'd hazard a guess that, whatever the mysterious hobby is, it involves plastic fuel tanks. (Or other fuel system bits). Despite the protestations of the fuel companies, and government, it's well-documented that ethanol-bearing fuels do cause damage to many plastics: for example many Aprilia tanks are plastic, and if left off the bike for any length of time while full of fuel, they'll swell and won't fit back on, as an earlier poster mentioned.
(It's partly a personal preference thing, i realise, but my almost-son-in-law always fills his Mille with Shell's "best" because he worries for his tank).

I know nowt really but what about an octane booster?

You can add toluene ( infinite octane) so that wizzes the octane back up. But it is highly carcenogenic, from my understanding.

Well if it smells of pear drops it's ethyl acetate, which I think is the ester of ethanol and acetic acid. Boring carbon chemistry lesson over. Wake up at the back there...
