Bmw 1200gsa tyres

Hi guys
Thinking about taking the gsa offroad .

My question is what tyres?
What are the offroad tyres like on a 1200gs like on the road .
How fast do they wear with more road miles on

any advice will be welcome

i quite like the tkc 80 on a gsa,got me to moroc from uk and back.plus 8 days on trails.you might get 4k if youre lucky. red eric of this parish has recently fitted a set he swears by but I cant remember what there called,he will be along sometime to let you know.the tkc 80 take a couple of days on road to get used to. hth. j

What exactly do you mean by "off road?". Gravel trails? Muddy rutted trails? It makes a difference which to the type of tyre you choose.

Predominantly muddy tracks means a TKC 80 type is favoured but not essential as some riders seem to manage on anything.
Gravel, stoney and generally hard but broken up surfaces will favour Mitas E07 type thing although the TKC80 type will do that too of course.
Both the TKC 80's and the Mitas E07 tyres are good on tarmac too but you will get a lot more mileage out of the Mitas.
Last year i did the Dalton Highway and had a TKC 80 front and a Mitas E07 rear which proved to be a great combination. Other guys used the TKC 70's ( Jim, Wideparting hates them ) which also performed well but i preferred mine for the extra confidence they gave me. There are plenty of choices of good on/off road tyres amongst which are the Heidenau K60 Scouts which are also excellent.

I managed 4k on my last set in September - all the way to spain and back with 500 miles off roading my awesome steed at my destination
Just take it easy on the motorway - I rarely top 85 so I don't rip em up but on the A and B roads their grip is tremendous

What Tyre for a GSA off road this could be a longgggggg thread, the GSA is not a off road bike so what your after is a tyre that looks Tuff and will do a bit of unpaved track

You never said what type of tracks you want to play out on, or what model you have

The air cooled 1200 I had was happy with TKC80s (in the dry) but the LC 1200 never did ?

All 50/50 tyres are a compromise you have to get some that suit your needs

I have tried plenty on the big BM and these suit me the best by a country mile

I enjoyed tkc80s for some trail riding. They did not last that long and spun up the rear in wet and that was on a little xc800

Thanks for the input guys . For the record its the LC model and would be mainly loose dirt come gravel . Not muddy stuff I'll keep that for the KTM .
