Fork prices am I being ripped off or are they good

Post by Mikekitts81 »

Got this back from a company today for redoing my secondhand forks for my build but unsure on prices I no its not a lot but I'd this cheap or am I being ripped off

Hi

Yes anodising the pair of tubes is £100
The reason the strip and rebuild price isn’t included is because you could have a fork service £75 or a upgrade (stage1)£150 or stage2 £250
It would also be a good idea to replace the seals £50

Regards,

Ryan

Not all that bad, Ryan. OK you see pairs of older model S/H forks on ebay for between £50 and £200 depending on the bike - but they could well need exactly the same re-build you are looking at. If that £50 price is to supply and fit fork-seals then it's a snip - I'd expect nearer £100 for that because most pairs of seals are £15-25 and it's got to be at least an hour's labour if you're really good at it, often more like 2 hours. If it includes fresh oil too then bight their arm off. Not sure about the anodising quote but it doesn't sound a lot. When you enter the dark world of fork spring/cartridge upgrades you can spend quite a lot of money but the handling returns are usually worth every penny. Always spend money on suspension before engine work.

I used Dr Shox to sort my 690 forks. A service and revalve is £130. Service only is £75.

They obviously aren't replacing the springs to suit your weight,I'd take them somewhere else, pay more and get the job done properly. £450 without the anodizing would be more realistic
