Weird wear on PR4s

Post by PADDYTFIELD »

Hi
I don’t know if it,s the low winter sun casting longer shadows but I noticed some weird shadows on my Michelin PR4s.I will try to describe the problem,it’s as if patches of the tyre is collapsing.
If you think of the sections between the grooves as tectonic plates on planet Earth one section is lower than the other by a couple of millimetre.
I know the centre part of the tyre is meant to be harder wearing but this seems to be at different parts of the tyre.
I have done around 6 k miles mostly 2 up fully loaded and they seem to be grippy enough and we’re fantastic around the Picos in torrential rain.
I’ve tried to get a photo of the issue but I’m not David Bailey.
Just wondering if anybody else has noticed a problem with their PR4s, I may be looking at Anakee 3 for the future.
Cheers Paddy

the only problem ive heard about pr4 is they tend to get more punctures than most.if youre getting 6k I think that's pretty good. rederic on this site recently put some info on his latest tyres.he uses more tyres than anyone I know,so id go with his advice. j

Difficult to say exactly from the pics, but it looks like normal feathering and wear to me (the leading/load bearing edge of the tread will wear more than the other edge)

Maybe call into a local tyre shop for a check?

Don’t they have a harder compound in the centre for motorways or long straight runs and softer for the cornering?

I thought they where like this as they are a touring tyre?

Would explain the drop off!

I had this on the couple of rears I've used, nothing to worry about in my humble opinion, I'm not easy on tyres, but even I got around 6.5-7k miles out of them.

Normal wear as far as I can see, my tyres have always worn with one edge lower than the other and it alters depending on how and what I've been riding.
You'll be able to see the join between the different compounds as well, I could always see it after a reasonable amount of miles on my PR's.
