thanks for that :) .. strangely, another Mike recommended the ITs .. cheap too .
I will try the eo9, and soon, in combo with the army644 front, to see how I like them.
then possibly I may try the ITs.
I do a lot of road work with the crf mind, as trails are spread far here in south wales, and not now got a van.
whatever I got should wear out by the time I (hopefully) do the tet next year .. so perhaps I can choose my preference?

cheers :)

well ... eventually got round to getting my rear eo9 fitted.
even off the rim it feels like concrete, and I knew I was not going to be able to do it at home,
It took three tyre fitters and nearly broke the hydraulic tyre machine
to get it on.. sheesh ... got no chance on the trail!!

fitting was a tenner,
the inner tube cost £20, but was a bridgestone very very heavy duty.
I know it will be hotter on the roads
but hopefully less chance of puncture on the trails.?

took me an hour to put the wheel back on ... ffs I mean ffs Honda.. you do this on every bike... its such a tight fit... must be a secret method .. perhaps you got to take the brake disc and chain off .. I don't know. its always the little grommet spindle spacer things at either side? (my old 1100 pan was almost impossible to fit the rear wheel).

I've just had E07's fitted to the 690 and the tyre fitter said not to bother trying to fix a puncture myself as I'd never get the tyre off or back on.
I've only done a few miles yet so can't comment too accurately but they felt decent enough for intended 99% road use.

Mind you my brief foray into a Mitas C02 only lasted 25 miles before it came off. Like riding on a concrete tyre.
But I loved the Xtreme, a great tyre for Sussex mud and hilariously dodgy on road wirh a 1.5mm square contact patch.

and c02 .. http://www.mitas.co.uk/Trail-Tyres/Mitas-C02.html

had to look the xtreme up :? and the c02 :?

.. so is this inconvenience (difficult/impossible fitting) a MITAS thing?

hmmmm ... can anyone elucidate?
I just had fitted a bridgestone very HD inner tube

this was on the mitas site, advert for tyres and tube ..
quote .. //These are top quality Heavy Duty Competition only Inner tubes, 4mm thickness available in sizes 18 and 21 inch.
These tubes are not road legal and not recommended for highway use.//

???

.. me 'ed is goin funny

I think Mitas started as industrial tyre manufacturers so maybe they've continued the principle.

The Xtreme is a barely road legal enduro tyre that keeps fantastically clean in muddy conditions and grips brilliantly.
The compromise is road manners but it's worth it.
I doubt either would be of interest to adventure riders unless they were more masochistic than anyone else.

Any vhd tube is classed as not for road use for some absurd but unknown, to me, reason.
The vagaries of Construction and Use or US regulations I suppose.
I can see why mousses aren't legal as they can't take persistent road running heat. Nor do they inflate so don't comply with CofU.

I suppose I will just have to take it slow on tarmac?
not to overheat the inner tube?
45-50mph?

Don't take my word for it but I think the inner tube bit is all bo##%ks.
Not sure where the theory comes from.

Mousses I can understand as that isn't what they are designed for so they can degrade from heat build up but how can a thicker rubber tube be iffy?
It's never bothered me before.

But I didn't say anyone else should do what I do.

Glad you got it fitted in the end.

I've never had a puncture in an E09, and any thorn that gets through that carcass will be an 'ard b**stard!

On a lighter bike you could probably run them with v low pressures the sidewalls are that stiff, but for piece of mind i carry a bottle of slime just in case, as i dont fancy my chances of getting it off and on again on the trails.

Re speed, ive done a thousand or so miles loaded up with camping kit etc. No problems at sustained 70mph stuff.

do you think high speeds are ok with the very HD inner tube? ..(4mm or is it 5mm?)

. slime? the green stuff? is that better than that white squirty tyre sealant?
